MIGRAINE HEADACHES
What are Migraine Headaches?
Migraines are severe headaches that impact the entire nervous system. They often cause nausea, vision disturbances, light sensitivity, and other uncomfortable symptoms.
HOW DOES KETAMINE TREAT MIGRAINES?
Although the exact mechanism of action of Ketamine for migraines is not fully understood, the theory has to do with dissociation of specific systems in the brain. Ketamine also acts on Glutamate binding sites in the brain at the NMDA receptor. Ketamine blocks the NMDA receptor site so the neurotransmitters cannot bind. Without the ability to bind, the pain signals cannot be sent. This action causes a decrease in pain and regrowth of neural connections by increasing Glutamate.
